(BUSINESS WIRE)--Office Depot® (NYSE:ODP), a leading global provider of office products and services, and the Office Depot Foundation announced today that Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy Impala in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™, will join the Foundation today, September 2, to donate 4,000 book bags to non-profit organizations and schools in the Atlanta area.

The donations will be made during a special “Back-to-School Celebration” event beginning at 4 p.m. local time at the Office Depot store located at 2625 Piedmont Road in Atlanta. In addition to Stewart, special guests will include Andrea Boone, commissioner of Constituent Services for Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Saundy Hutto, director for new business development and marketing with Speedway Children’s Charities.
This year, the Office Depot Foundation is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its National Backpack Program. Since the program began in 2001, Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation have donated approximately 2.3 million backpacks and book bags to children in need.

Stewart will help host the “Back-To-School Celebration” event as he prepares for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™ Emory Healthcare 500 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway (Sunday, Sept. 5, 7:30 p.m. EDT, ESPN). He is a two-time Sprint Cup Series race winner at the 1.54-mile track. Stewart is partnering with the Office Depot Foundation for the second year in a row and is helping the organization donate more than 300,000 backpacks and book bags throughout this 2010 back-to-school season.

The Office Depot Foundation is partnering with a number of national non-profit organizations – including the Tony Stewart Foundation, the National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), Feed The Children, the Kids In Need Foundation, Nourish America, Zach Bonner’s Little Red Wagon Foundation and the National Foundation for Women Legislators – whose members participate in all 50 states. For the third consecutive year, donations will be made to children of the Navajo Nation in Arizona and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota.

Clayton State Cares… as Part of President Hynes’ Inauguration
As part of the inauguration ceremonies of President Dr. Thomas J. “Tim” Hynes, Jr., the Clayton State University Department of Campus Life will be sponsoring a day of community service, entitled “Clayton State Cares” on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010.
The First Clayton State Cares Day will feature volunteer service projects for Clayton State students, faculty, staff, administrators, and their families at five locations in the Southern Crescent. All five service projects will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will be followed by a cookout for the volunteers at the Clayton State Student Activities Center from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The five service projects are as follows…
Helping the City of Forest Park turn a vacant lot into a community garden.
Spreading mulch, planting flowers and doing basic equipment maintenance at the Lake City Park Playgorund and the Run Creek Playground.
Volunteering at the Lafayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fayetteville.
Helping with morning set-up and registration for the Second Annual Ride to Break the Cycle Motorcycle Ride in Henry County.

Clayton State Angel Tree Volunteers Dig Deep
Just over a week before Christmas; faculty, staff and students from Clayton State University’s College of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences (CIMS) and College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) found out that 200 children were going to go unsponsored in this year’s Salvation Army Angel Tree program.
“Everyone dug deep in their pockets to buy an additional 100 toys so that these children would receive something for Christmas,” says Mary Hudachek-Buswell, lecturer of Computer Science and Mathematics in CIMS. “This is our 10-year anniversary of participating with the Angel Tree program. Each year we feel like we can help more, and we were glad to take on more this year.”
And they did, raising more in funds and gifts in 2009 than in any of the previous nine years that these two Clayton State colleges have participated in Angel Tree.
“So even during this recession, Clayton State gave to those in more need than we are,” adds Hudachek-Buswell. “The Salvation Army officers in Jonesboro were close to tears when we showed up with two cars filled to roof with toys yesterday.”

Clayton: Local Boys Scouts to Host Fundraising Event
On Thursday, April 23, 2009, the Clayton County Boy Scouts of America will host the 1st Annual Tara District Golden Eagle Low Country Boil at Stately Oaks Plantation in Jonesboro, Georgia. The mission of the 1st Annual Tara District Golden Eagle Low Country Boil is to provide an avenue for community leaders to raise funds to support the Clayton County Boy Scouts of America “Friends of Scouting” Campaign.
The event, which will last from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., is being sponsored by the Southside Seafood Co., who is a member of the Morrow Business and Tourism Association. There is no specific price to attend the event. During the event, everyone in attendance will be asked to make a meaningful contribution through a pledge that they can pay over the remainder of the year.
“Friends of Scouting” is the annual campaign where the Atlanta Area Council asks Scouting families, businesses, and civic-minded citizens to support the Scouts’ mission of providing the Scouting program to tens of thousands of young people in the Atlanta Area, which includes Clayton County. Supporting “Friends of Scouting” provides many opportunities for our local Scouts, including local programs and activities throughout the council territory; camp scholarships, uniforms, and registration fees for at-risk youths; accident and liability insurance to protect both youth and adult members; professional staff who counsel, guide, and inspire volunteer leadership; and many more.
For almost 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
The Atlanta Area Council Boy Scouts of America covers 13 metro-Atlanta Counties: Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Haralson, Newton, Paulding, Pickens, and Rockdale. Last year, the Atlanta Area Council served over 44,000 youth, and 10,000 adult volunteers, with over 900 youth 400 adults in Clayton County Scouting. The Atlanta Area Council Volunteer Service Center, located at 1800 Circle 75 Pkwy, Atlanta, Georgia, is the operations center for all of the Council’s activities throughout the year.
