Stein Mart Once Again Teams with Salvation Army for Give & Receive Event

/PRNewswire/ -- Based on the success of two previous events, Stein Mart has again partnered with The Salvation Army for the national Give & Receive clothing drive, October 1-3. In a year that has brought financial challenges to many Americans and with the winter months fast approaching, Stein Mart and The Salvation Army have decided to team up for the second time in 2009 to help those who might be in need of clothes for the winter season. Shoppers who bring clean, gently used garments in good condition to any Stein Mart store during the Give & Receive event will receive savings on new fall fashions and much more.

Stein Mart previously teamed with The Salvation Army for Give & Receive events in October 2008 and February 2009. In total, approximately 800,000 pieces of clothing have been donated by Stein Mart shoppers to help replenish The Salvation Army Thrift and Family Stores. All proceeds from the Thrift and Family Stores directly support The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Centers, where over 340,000 men and women turned their lives around in 2008.

For each item donated, contributors will receive a coupon for 20% off any item.* Those who donate will have the opportunity to redeem their coupons on a variety of items including fashion apparel for women, men and children from many top designers and brands, as well as accessories, gifts, linens and shoes.

Help Fund Fayette County Classrooms And Save Money; Enjoy the City Books Half Price

Everyone is looking for ways to save money in today’s tough economy. Now Fayette County residents can save on costs for food and services they purchase everyday while helping teachers bring innovative academic lessons and projects to Fayette County students.

The community has already been enjoying the many discounts and buy one, get one free deals offered by local businesses through the Enjoy the City coupon book. Starting now, residents can purchase the books for $10, half off the cover price.

For every book purchased, 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to the Fayette County Education Foundation to help fund grants for teachers of the Fayette County School System. The books are on sale at the board of education office as long as quantities last.

Since 2002, hundreds of teachers have received grants to implement dynamic lessons and projects such as cooking food in chemistry labs to demonstrate chemical reactions, sewing literary quilts to reinforce a theme or point made by a famous author and sponsoring American Sign Language classes before and after school to help students better understand and interact with deaf and hard of hearing classmates. Projects such as these open the doors to learning for many students by capturing their attention, appealing to their interests and tying what they learn to real life.

These lessons have all occurred in Fayette’s classrooms and are just a sampling of the educational innovation happening throughout the county, but none of these projects would have been possible without the support of the Fayette County Education Foundation.

Wendy's Kicks Off Its Annual Halloween Coupon Program Benefiting the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption

PRNewswire/ -- Kids' trick-or-treat bags will be filled with more than just sticky sweet candy this year, some may get a coupon for a free Wendy's Jr. Frosty and help another kid find a home.

Since 1992, the Wendy's Halloween Coupon Program fundraiser has generated millions of dollars for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, supporting the Foundation's mission to move children out of foster care into forever families.

In 2007, the coupon program raised approximately $1.6 million for foster care adoption throughout the United States and Canada.

"Not only does the coupon program generate national awareness for the Foundation, but the support it provides has been extraordinary," said Rita Soronen, executive director of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. "Initiatives like the Halloween program provide the resources for the Foundation to continue to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive in a loving and permanent home."

Wendy's customers are encouraged to purchase the booklets as an alternative to passing out candy on during trick or treat festivities. One- dollar booklets can be purchased at a number of Wendy's restaurant locations nationwide.
