/PRNewswire/ -- A team of inspirational women join The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation to host the first-annual Girls Who Rule the World ("GWRTW") Mentoring Weekend, dedicated to help teenage girls from diverse backgrounds successfully navigate the pressures and pitfalls of teenage life.
On October 22-24, 100 teenage girls will gather with Marjorie Harvey, The View co-host, Sherri Shepherd , and other trusted female business leaders and entertainers - including singer Keri Hilson , actress Terri Vaughn , Essence magazine's Mikki Taylor , and CBS News Correspondent Shannon Eis - at the Omni CNN Center in Atlanta, GA for three-days of interactive seminars designed to motivate girls, and equip them with resources and education needed to be successful. The weekend experience is supported by State Farm® as part of its commitment to supporting the future of American's youth.
"Since Georgia has the highest number of high school drop outs and third highest prostitution rates among teenage girls, GWRTW is designed to offer these girls the life skills needed to overcome teenage obstacles and establish a path to success," says Marjorie Harvey, President of The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation.
GWRTW speakers and workshops will focus on increasing self-reliance and high esteem. By being exposed to such leaders as Rosalind Brewer (Executive Vice President, Wal-Mart U.S. and President, Wal-Mart Stores South) and Brenda Freeman (Chief Marketing Officer, Turner Broadcasting), girls will learn the importance of making healthy decisions to follow in the footsteps of these role models. Specifically, attendees will learn about professional etiquette, appropriate dress, and even making the right sexual choices that decrease health risks. On that note, they'll be prompted to sustain a healthy dialogue with parents and guardians.

TRC Staffing Surprises Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s East DeKalb Club with New Bicycles
(BUSINESS WIRE)--Atlanta-based TRC Staffing Services, Inc., one of the nation’s leading full-service staffing solutions providers, surprised its employees this week with an unusual twist during its annual company meeting. As part of a team-building activity during the two-day event, the company’s 70 plus employees worked together to assemble ten bicycles. To their surprise, and the delight of the East DeKalb Boys & Girls Club, the newly assembled bicycles were donated to ten very excited children.
“The assembly and donation of the bikes to these children proves that businesses can still give back to the community, even on a limited budget. We hope that this exercise not only encourages our employees to work together, but also shows them that, when they work as a team, they really can make a difference,” said Afton Lucente, Marketing Manager, TRC Staffing.
“We’re so very appreciative of the time and effort given to the boys and girls at our Club by the team at TRC," said Patricia Jackson, Executive Director of East DeKalb Boys & Girls Club. “Our goal is to empower the youth in our area, especially those from disadvantaged families, to become positive and productive adults. These kids will know that their bikes are the result of teamwork - we could not ask for a better example.”
The East DeKalb Boys & Girls Club is part of Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta and has been serving the DeKalb area for 35 years. The organization provides year-round programs for over 300 members, ages 6-18, and offers a variety of programs focusing on three areas of youth development including health, education and employability.
