The Gathering Place is hosting a Charitable Gifting Workshop on Monday June 22, 2009 at 6:30PM for both people who are charitably inclined and for non-profit organizations (churches, schools, civic organizations, etc) who are looking for creative ways to maximize a gift, donation, or bequest.
Cory Freeman LUTCF, CSA, RFC shares his 37 years of expertise and stories of ways he has helped his clients donate over $16 Million to their favorite charitable organization. He does this by taking a small gift and maximizing its potential for the benefit of the charity. He calls this “Turning a Gift into Your Lasting Legacy.”

Community Efforts Help Foster Children to Get Back to Being Children
/PRNewswire/ -- The Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) designated May as the month to celebrate the tireless efforts of foster care home providers and adoptive parents. On May 16, DFCS honored the parents and are planning a special day at Six Flags Over Georgia for the foster children who often go overlooked.
"We often see an increase in the number of children and families who need our assistance during difficult economic times such as these," said Dannette R. Smith, Director of the Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services. "This is clearly a time when partnering with the community can make a huge difference in the lives of the children we serve."
On June 13, the county's foster care children will spend an entire day at Six Flags Over Georgia. Local community partners pitched in to help plan the special event for the children. The community's acts of kindness began with Six Flags Over Georgia who agreed to provide food and ticket concessions. The Coca-Cola Company sponsored more than 200 one-day passes for the children as well.
Bernard Taylor, Esq., a partner in the law firm of Alston & Bird, LLP, also pitched in by donating a check to help offset some of the event's cost. Taylor, who grew up in the foster care system, knows firsthand the obstacles these children face.
"I just want to give these children a day where they can just be children and not worry about the challenges they have had to live with," said Taylor.

Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Celebrates Completion of Fifth Technology Habitat for Humanity House
/PRNewswire/ -- Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) announced June 5 that it has completed work on its fifth annual Technology Habitat for Humanity House build in Atlanta. FHLBank Atlanta joined forces with TechBridge, a local nonprofit that organized the event, and 11 other corporate sponsors to build this year's home for a deserving family. Construction began on April 24, 2009 at the home's site on Lawton Street in Atlanta. The home's completion was celebrated in a site ceremony on June 4, 2009.
Through the sponsorship program facilitated by TechBridge, the corporate sponsors provided funds and volunteers to complete the project. The Bank's Information Technology department has participated in the Technology Habitat for Humanity House build for the past five years.
"This annual Habitat build is particularly rewarding for us as we strive to make a difference in the lives of families in our local community," said Cathy Adams, executive vice president and chief administrative officer, FHLBank Atlanta. "FHLBank Atlanta has a long history of partnership and support of Habitat for Humanity and affordable housing in general, not only in the Atlanta community, but throughout the region we serve."
Since 1983, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity has built more than 1,000 homes in the city of Atlanta and Fulton County, housing more than 3,500 individual family members. In keeping with the technology theme, the new homeowners will receive a laptop computer, an all-in-one color printer, and a $150 gift certificate for the purchase of a computer table and chair.

Kool Kidz Classic Polo Tournament Returns September 12
Annual fundraising event benefits programs for children with disabilities and their families
FOCUS announced today that the Seventh Annual Kool Kidz Classic Polo Tournament will be Saturday, September 12 on the polo fields of Dr. & Mrs. Phil Beegle at Cedargate Farms in Newnan, Georgia. The Kool Kidz Classic historically has benefited the Kool Kidz Foundation. As of January 2009, the Kool Kidz Foundation merged with FOCUS, a 26-year-old nonprofit that also serves children with disabilities.
The Kool Kidz Classic Polo Tournament fundraiser is an eight-goal tournament featuring exceptionally talented local, national and international players in a high quality, exciting match. In addition to the championship polo match, activities include a silent auction, a raffle, champagne and divot stomping, delicious food by well-known chefs, as well as an evening party with music.
Kool Kidz Foundation was founded in 2002 when a group of physical and occupational therapists noticed a gap in facilities and services available for children who fell outside the norm of their able-bodied peers. Kool Kidz Foundation developed exceptional programs and services where all children, especially those with physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs, can learn and play together in an inclusive and challenging environment.
FOCUS began in 1983 when two medically fragile children shared a hospital room. The parents of these children became friends, finding in each other comfort, information, and friendship. FOCUS was founded to offer emotional, informational and physical support to families of children with disabilities or ongoing medical needs. FOCUS has grown to reach almost 3,000 families in metro Atlanta.
These two organizations combine their strengths to come together to benefit the children and families that they serve. The Newnan, Peachtree City, and Fayetteville communities have helped the Kool Kidz Classic Polo Tournament grow into a profitable fundraiser over the past six years.
