Valdosta State University’s Office of Volunteer Services and Parent Programs has teamed up with the American Red Cross to host the VSU vs. West Georgia Blood Drive from 12:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Student Union Ballroom.
With the goal of collecting 250 pints, VSU is hoping to beat its rival to the west in this philanthropic battle. Red Cross will present a trophy to the winning team during halftime of the VSU vs. West Georgia football game at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
Donors will receive a free game-themed T-shirt (while supplies last), and are encouraged to wear the black shirt to “Black-Out the Stadium” during the VSU vs. West Georgia game. Those interested in pre-ordering the T-shirt should e-mail Alisha Stabler, email@example.com, or call her at 333-5674 by Friday, Oct. 8. People will receive their T-shirts by Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Delta Pi, the Greek Ambassadors, and Student Government Organization are sponsoring the event.
The drive is part of a series of monthly blood drives VSU established to address ongoing blood shortages and enable faculty, staff and students to conveniently donate. Walk ins are accepted; however, donors are encouraged to make an online reservation prior to the day of the event to prevent long wait times.

According to the American Red Cross, someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds, and each donation of blood saves up to three lives. The entire blood donation process, from registration to refreshments, takes about 15 minutes; and the average person may donate blood every 56 days.
