Feed The Children and PepsiCo Donate Food and Essentials to Nearly 3,000 Atlanta Families

/PRNewswire/ -- Yesterday, Feed The Children and PepsiCo partnered to bring 10 semi tractor-trailers full of food, essentials and personal care items to Compassion Atlanta (1300 Joseph E. Boone Blvd.) to help nearly 3,000 Atlanta families. Approximately 150 PepsiCo associates volunteered to help distribute the boxes.

Employees from PepsiCo's various area businesses – Frito-Lay, Pepsi Beverages Company and PepsiCo Warehouse – handed out more than 14,000 boxes of food, essentials and personal care items, including 3,000 bags of PepsiCo products like Frito-Lay's Baked! line of snacks, SunChips multigrain snacks, Rold Gold pretzels, Quaker Oatmeal, Quaker Chewy Chocolate Chip granola bars, Tropicana orange juice, Propel Fit water and Sierra Mist Natural lemon-lime soda. Feed The Children's partner agency, Compassion Atlanta, identified the families in need of assistance and provided volunteer assistance at the event. Each family selected was given a voucher to receive the following items at the event:

* 25-pound box of food
* 10-pound box of essentials
* box of Avon products
* bag of PepsiCo products, including brands from Frito-Lay, Quaker, Tropicana and Pepsi

Atlanta is struggling with the economic downturn. The unemployment and child poverty rates in Georgia, Fulton County and Atlanta are higher than the national average. One in three children living in Atlanta is considered impoverished.

The distribution was the latest stop on Feed The Children's Americans Feeding Americans Caravan. The caravan has helped more than 150,000 families across the country in cities that have been affected by the nation's economic downturn. Feed The Children plans to help at least 200,000 families with the caravan by the end of 2010.

"The tremendous contribution by PepsiCo, Frito-Lay, Pepsi Beverages Company and their employees has allowed us to expand this event and help thousands of people in the Atlanta area," said Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children. "Our Americans Feeding Americans project is geared toward people who are still being affected by the economic downturn, including many who, until recently, considered themselves middle class. A lot of these people, for the first time in their lives, have not been able to provide for their families and this distribution will provide relief for them at a crucial time."

"PepsiCo's Atlanta associates are pleased to work side-by-side with Feed the Children's Americans Feeding Americans Caravan to help make a difference in the lives of nearly 3,000 of our neighbors in need," said Erika Gongola, associate retail execution manager, PepsiCo Warehouse.

Letter Carriers to Help 'Stamp Out Hunger' With Food Drive Saturday in All 50 States

/PRNewswire/ -- Letter carriers across the country will collect non-perishable food donations Saturday (May 8) as they deliver mail along their postal routes in the nation's largest one-day effort to Stamp Out Hunger.

Donations will be collected along postal routes in more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the District of Columbia.

The 18th annual Letter Carriers' National Food Drive is being conducted by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) with the assistance of rural letter carriers and other postal employees and volunteers. The postal union is seeking to exceed last year's record 73.4 million pounds of food delivered to community food banks and pantries. It also anticipates breaking the one billion-pound mark in total donations since the humanitarian effort began in 1993.

NALC President Fredric V. Rolando said the donations from postal customers will help millions of American families who have been hurt by the nation's lingering economic difficulties. The drive is especially important at this time for families with children who rely on school lunch programs for nutrition, since most of them are suspended during the summer months.

"Food banks and pantries are in dire need this year as more and more families seek assistance to provide sufficient food for their dinner table," Rolando said. "Many are working families who find that their income simply will not stretch enough to meet all their housing, clothing, medical and nutritional needs."

The public should leave non-perishable food donations - such as canned meat and fish, soup, cereals, pasta and rice - in a bag near their mailbox on Saturday before their letter carrier arrives. Glass containers and items with expired dates should be avoided. (In New York City, residents are asked to take their donations to their local post office).

Over 126 million postcards, sponsored by the Campbell Soup Company and the U.S. Postal Service's Priority Mail, have been mailed to postal customers to remind them of the drive. Other national partners are the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association, Valpak, United Way Worldwide, the AFL-CIO and the Feeding America food bank network.

/PRNewswire/ -- Today Management, Inc., an Associa Company, held a two-week Food Drive to collect canned food and dry goods for the North Fulton County Charities Food Bank. The Food Banks of North Fulton have suffered from decreased donations and increased needs. Gracious donations from employees, clients and vendors went to help replenish needed resources for the Food Bank.

Angel Food Ministries Continues to Serve and Hits March Peak

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Angel Food Ministries (www.angelfoodministries.com), an organization dedicated to providing affordable, high quality food to those in need, achieved its highest ever March distribution with 560,000 boxes distributed, and only second highest distribution numbers in its history, indicating further the growing need for affordable, quality food.

Angel Food Ministries provides boxes of food to more than 5000 communities in 39 states and feeds more than 320,000 families each year. Through Angel Food's benevolence funds, the organization has donated $560 thousand back into local communities and churches this month alone and more than $20 million since its inception.

Pastor Joe Wingo, CEO and founder, said, "Our March numbers humble us, as we see there is a great need being filled, yet we need to do more. We fear that those who are going hungry are multiplying with each day and down turn in the national employment figures.”

Pastor Wingo continued, "Angel Food Ministries has been under somewhat of a siege in the public eye for a few months, and we feel it every day. It is our greatest privilege to be able to continue filling a national need and helping families through the rough times. We appreciate the support and confidence that this distribution demonstrates; we feel for those who seek food relief through us, and praise God for giving us the abilities to minister to so many through this national epidemic."

PTCUMC Now Hosting Food Distribution Ministry

Beginning in February, Peachtree City United Methodist Church will serve as the first host site for Angel Food Ministries in Peachtree City. Angel Food Ministries (AFM) is a non-profit, non-denominational organization that began in 1994 as a small outreach ministry serving a rural community in Georgia. Their goal was to help people who needed a hand up in a tough economic time. Today, Angel Food Ministries can be found in over 3,200 communities in 35 states and helps feed over 500,000 families a month.

PTCUMC will partner with Angel Food to help distribute food to families in need in the Peachtree City area. For $30 a family can purchase a box of food containing both fresh and frozen items that would cost $50 or more at local stores. The menu, which changes each month, is published in both English and Spanish on the AFM website at www.angelfoodministries.com so that it can be viewed prior to placing an order. The February box will contain 11 lbs of beef, chicken and pork, 7 lbs of fresh and frozen vegetables and fruit, a jar of peanut butter, a box of soup mix, one box of cereal, a package of dried beans and one dessert.

By purchasing the basic box, you are then eligible to order one or more monthly special. In February there are three specials:

· 6.5lb Steak and Meat Combo, $20
· 3.75lb Prime Rib Steak Box, $19
· 10lb Chicken Combo Box, $18

The public is invited to make food orders in person at PTCUMC on either of two dates each month, which will be about two weeks before the delivery date, with payment in cash or food stamps (EBT) at the time the order is placed. Orders for the February shipment will be taken at the PTCUMC Children and Youth Campus, 400 Windgate Rd, on these dates:

· Thursday, Jan. 31, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM
· Saturday, Feb. 2, from 8:30 – 10:00 AM

Paid orders must be picked up on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 9:00 – 10:30 AM, at 400 Windgate Rd. At that time menus, order dates and the delivery date for the month of March will be available.
