Cousins Properties and its five metro Atlanta Avenue® lifestyle centers are collaborating with high school marketing students to bring holiday cheer with WALK OFF for a Cause, a fashion show benefiting United Way. The event, which is invitation only, will be hosted at Terminus in Buckhead on December 9 from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
The fashion show will engage DECA students at one high school in each Avenue community, including Grayson, Kennesaw Mountain, Lassiter, South Forsyth and Whitewater. The students will model holiday trends by Avenue retailers Banana Republic, Jos. A. Bank, Gap, Sage, Talbots and White House | Black Market, that also will be offering special promotions to Avenue shoppers leading up to the event.
Students have been working with The Avenue’s marketing managers to develop a campaign that will promote their particular holiday fashion style within each local community. A scholarship will be awarded to one student from each of the five participating schools. The Favorite Model, the student who receives the most overall votes at www.avenuewalkoff.com between December 1 and December 8, will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The student that receives the top number of votes at each of the remaining four schools will receive a $250 scholarship. Lastly, United Way of Metro Atlanta will be presented with a $2,500 donation from The Avenue and Terminus. All winners will be announced live at WALK OFF for a Cause.
“It's rare that we get to provide students with the opportunity to apply their classroom concepts to the ‘real’ business world,” said Krystin Glover, Georgia DECA Board President and Teacher of the Year recipient at Whitewater High School in Fayetteville, Ga. “Partnerships with The Avenue such as the STYLE upGRADE and the upcoming WALK OFF for a Cause have allowed our students to showcase their marketing and promotional talents.”
WALK OFF for a Cause is a component of Cousins Properties’ ongoing Partners in Education initiative and supports the company’s involvement with United Way since 2006.
“The Avenue is committed to giving back through educational initiatives, and with each year of our K-12 partnership we’re increasingly impressed by the marketing students’ unique ideas,” said Kim Tanalgo-Minshew – marketing manager, The Avenue. “WALK OFF for a Cause will demonstrate the skills and capabilities of our community’s youth while raising money for a nonprofit that in turns helps so many charities.”

The Avenue Peachtree City Collects Over $1,100 for CARE

Generous moviegoers donated over $1,100 to benefit the Fayette County Public School System’s CARE (Children at Risk in Education) program.
Thanks to The Avenue Peachtree City, the CARE program will be able to offer more After School Program (ASP) scholarships to families who need a safe place for their children to stay after the school day ends but are struggling to make ends meet. The scholarships pay for a portion of the ASP tuition for a limited number of weeks. Parents have to pay the other portion of the tuition in order to receive the scholarship.
The Avenue Peachtree City raised the donations through the Movies in the Park event on August 6 that featured “Night at the Museum 2.” Although the event was free, The Avenue Peachtree City allowed patrons to make monetary donations to benefit the school system’s CARE program.
“We are very grateful to The Avenue for their continued support of our CARE program. This donation will make a positive difference in the lives of our students and their families. Many parents who have been able to afford after school care in the past are now having difficulties providing for their families. The scholarships are a way we can take one worry off their plate about where their children are going to be after the school day ends,” says CARE Coordinator Karen Spangler.
The Avenue Peachtree City has other events planned for this year during which the shopping center will collect donations for CARE. Visit www.shoptheavenue.com for more information. In addition to ASP scholarships, CARE also provides other assistance to working families in need such as tutoring scholarships, school supplies and other programs or services to help meet the educational needs of children.

On January 16th and 18th Hood Avenue received several truck loads of donated supplies from Staples of Fayetteville.
“Hood Avenue is grateful to have received these materials, and sincerely appreciates the charitable support of the Fayetteville Staples”, says Principal Kiawana Kennedy.
Andrea Foster, the general manager, authorized the donation of overstocked goods after having a conversation with school nurse Cindy Hill, and her husband Stan Hill, who are frequent customers. Mr. Hill personally delivered the goods.
Hood Avenue received a very generous supply of copy paper, bubble wrap, 3 ring binders, folders, day planners, pencil sharpeners, notebooks, pens, post it notes, note holders, photo albums, activity books, and Buxton organizers.
On Thursday, January 24 Ms. Foster came to visit the school and Principal Kennedy presented her with a corporate certificate of appreciation.
“We hope to build a lasting collaborative partnership with the Fayetteville Staples that will positively benefit the education of our students,” says Dr. Kiawana Kennedy.
