(BUSINESS WIRE)--Let it glow! Let it glow! Let it glow! The Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan, illuminated by 25,000 red and white sparking lights rolled into Stone Mountain to spread the spirit of the holidays during its 15-day metro Atlanta visit.
The Caravan was in town to help celebrate Coca-Cola’s national partnership with Toys for Tots with a local gift drive. Coca-Cola also donated $20,000 and a PlayStation® 3 and a PlayStation® Move motion controller to the Atlanta Toys for Tots chapter as part of an overall $125,000 national donation to help provide toys to underprivileged kids in eight cities across the country.
People from across metro Atlanta stepped into the festive wonderland, complete with decorated trees and holiday music, to drop off gifts for Toys for Tots and donate My Coke Rewards points to Toys for Tots. Dozens of local residents helped make sure Santa’s sleigh was filled to the brim by donating toys for children in need.
In addition, Coca-Cola will randomly select one individual, who donated My Coke Rewards points or an unwrapped toy at the Stone Mountain Caravan event to receive a PlayStation® 3 and a PlayStation® Move motion controller. A PlayStation® kiosk was enjoyed onsite for demonstrations.
Special guests attending the Dec. 8 Caravan festivities included Georgia, DeKalb County and Stone Mountain public officials and community leaders: DeKalb Chamber of Commerce President Leonardo McClarty, Senator Gloria Butler (D-Stone Mountain), Dr. Pam Speaks of DeKalb County School Board, Stone Mountain Councilmembers Richard Mailman and Cyril Mungal, John Evans, president of the NAACP of DeKalb, Burke Brennan, DeKalb County’s interim chief of communications, District Director Kathy Register from Congressman Hank Johnson’s office, and others.
“The Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan gives community members an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of giving and help brighten the holidays for families in need,” said Karyn Hume, vice president of sales, Coca-Cola Refreshments, who presented the check to Atlanta Toys for Tots’ Master Sergeant Edward Barrett. “It’s a place where families and friends can Open Happiness and enjoy the magic of the holiday season together.”
Caravan visitors had an opportunity to share their holiday wish lists with Santa and snapped photos with the jolly old elf. They also were encouraged to send a greeting to Santa’s workshop by dropping it in the North Pole Outpost located at the Caravan.
For anyone who was unable to visit the Caravan, Coca-Cola is kicking off the fourth year of its partnership with Toys for Tots with an online gift drive on MyCokeRewards.com. The program promotes the magic of giving by encouraging people to donate their My Coke Rewards points to generate gifts for underprivileged kids.
Participating is easy for anyone, anywhere. From now through the end of the year, My Coke Rewards points found under caps and on packaging of more than 60 Coca-Cola products may be donated to Toys for Tots at www.mycokerewards.com. As the donations accumulate, Toys for Tots will redeem the points for a variety of gifts. With a goal of raising five million points, the program will enable Toys for Tots to put thousands of gifts into the hands of children and teens in need this year.

Ingenious Med Partners with Children's Restoration Network for Holiday Charity
/PRNewswire/ -- This holiday season, Ingenious Med is partnering with Children's Restoration Network (CRN) to donate employees' time and treasure to roughly 2,000 Metro-Atlanta children living in group homes and shelters.
CRN kicked off November with a Thanksgiving food drive, an effort to stock 129 shelters with basic needs as well as holiday favorites. The organization looks to volunteers like Ingenious Med to host these food drives throughout Atlanta. Ingenious Med has sponsored a month-long drive within its office complex, giving 14 companies and nearly 450 individuals the opportunity to donate everything from canned foods to grocery gift cards.
Additionally, Ingenious Med will be actively participating in CRN's "Adopt-A-Shelter" holiday program. Not only has Ingenious Med pledged to make its adopted shelter's holidays more enjoyable with volunteered time and gifts, Ingenious Med has engaged to donate time and scholarships to the shelter year-round.
During CRN's "12 Days of Caring" event, volunteers like Ingenious Med will be invited to a gift wrapping party, where they will have the opportunity to meet other volunteers and distribute gifts to the children of all ages.
"Holidays are always tough on those less fortunate, especially homeless children and homeless mothers with children," said Cliff Kinsey, CEO of CRN. "We could not touch so many lives without the help of great corporate citizens like Ingenious Med. We are very grateful to be a part of their Philanthropy."
CRN has been servicing 18 Atlanta counties since 1993, providing shelter for nearly 3,800 needy children each year. Beyond providing the basic necessities of food and shelter, CRN strives to provide education opportunities and special programs and events to bring positive experiences for some of Atlanta's most deserving youth.
"We felt an immediate connection with CRN due to its emphasis on our Atlanta community and the ability it gave us to donate and volunteer all year and not just during the holiday season," said Ingenious Med CEO, Hart Williford. "The passionate staff and volunteers have had such wonderful successes with the shelters and homeless mothers and children they serve. We're enthused on an individual and corporate level about this partnership."

Top 10 Reasons to Help Hosea Feed the Hungry & Homeless in 2009 Despite Economic Crisis
/PRNewswire/ -- Despite the economy, many people may find that helping someone in greater need than themselves is a rewarding way to contribute positively to the community. Because of today's dire economic environment, Hosea Feed the Hungry & Homeless (HFTH) is seeing a staggering 35 percent drop in financial donations amid a 45 percent increase in calls for assistance and needs help to continue providing critical human services in Metro Atlanta and around the world.
Over the last 40 years, HFTH has grown to become the largest food bank in the Southeast region directly serving individuals and families year-round and during its famous holiday dinners at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Martin Luther King's Birthday and Easter. But the Atlanta-based nonprofit also offers critical human services that helps sustain the working poor with other basic needs.
"There is so much to be done before the holidays, and we're beginning our campaign now to get at least 400 people who live in the Atlanta area and across the nation to join us for our 40th anniversary year," said Elisabeth Omilami, HFTH's executive director. "We want people to think of us early so we can stop hunger now and help the working poor with their basic needs to survive."
By giving money, material donations, or volunteering at HFTH, people can help:
-- Feed over 160,000 people annually
-- Prevent homelessness for hundreds of working poor families annually
-- Provide temporary housing or utility restoration for families
-- Meet the basic needs of working poor families each week
-- Deliver more than 25,000 meals to senior citizens
-- Deliver food, vitamins, candles, batteries, blankets and clothes to
the homeless
-- Provide personal budgeting, financial management and job placement
services
-- Serve more than 4,000 meals at Sunday services
-- Provide 3,000 children with new school book bags, clothes, and shoes
-- Distribute food, medical supplies and educational funding to the needy
in Haiti, Philippines and Uganda
"Between Jan. 1 and Aug. 1, 2008, we helped 1,610 individuals with the human services we provide; during the same period this year, more than 3,080 individuals benefited from our services," added Omilami. "Everyone can make a difference in helping those in need, no matter how large or small a contribution."
